With six months to go until the inaugural PRS27 Psychedelic Roundtable Symposium, Psychedelics.media has announced that early bird tickets are now on sale for what is being positioned as a new business-focused meeting point for the rapidly developing psychedelic medicine sector across Australia and the Asia-Pacific region. Taking place in Melbourne on 19 and 20 March 2027, PRS27 will bring together researchers, clinicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, educators, academics, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, treatment providers, investors, insurers, legal and regulatory specialists, technology companies and other participants across the emerging psychedelic medicine ecosystem.

Where business meets science is the central premise. While Australia and the broader Asia-Pacific region have hosted a growing number of academic, clinical and research-focused conferences examining psychedelics, PRS27 is being developed around a different proposition: creating a dedicated forum where the scientific, clinical and commercial sides of the emerging industry can meet in the same room. The model draws on the role that established industry conferences have played in other emerging regulated markets, including the cannabis sector, where events have provided a platform for businesses, researchers, policymakers, investors and healthcare professionals to establish relationships and debate the direction of the industry. PRS27 is designed to create that meeting point for psychedelic medicine.

Melbourne is a significant location for the event. In 2023, Australia’s Therapeutic Goods Administration made the landmark decision to permit specifically authorised psychiatrists to prescribe MDMA for post-traumatic stress disorder and psilocybin for treatment-resistant depression under the Authorised Prescriber framework, with the changes taking effect on 1 July 2023. The regulatory change established Australia as one of the jurisdictions where psychedelic-assisted therapy could move beyond clinical trials into a tightly controlled clinical pathway. Access remains highly regulated, with authorised psychiatrists required to meet TGA and Human Research Ethics Committee requirements, while MDMA and psilocybin remain unapproved therapeutic goods rather than ARTG-registered medicines. Three years on, the sector is confronting the next set of questions: how clinical services develop, how practitioners are trained, how research translates into real-world treatment, how medicines are manufactured and supplied, how businesses build sustainable models, how patients access treatment, and what infrastructure will be required as the sector develops. PRS27 will provide a forum for those discussions.

The two-day program will begin on Friday 19 March with registration and a networking event, providing delegates with an opportunity to connect ahead of the main symposium. The principal symposium will take place on Saturday 20 March, featuring six industry panels and an industry roundtable examining the issues shaping the future of psychedelic medicine. The program will bring together perspectives from across the ecosystem, including clinical practice, research, education and training, regulation, healthcare delivery, investment, biotechnology, insurance, technology, governance and the commercial infrastructure required to support a maturing industry. Additional speakers, program announcements and event details will be released in the coming months.

For Psychedelics.media, PRS27 represents the next step in the development of an industry that increasingly sits at the intersection of medicine, science, healthcare, investment and business.

“This is about bringing the industry into the same room,” said Gary Mackenzie, Contributing Editor of Psychedelics.media.

“There have been excellent academic and scientific conferences examining psychedelics, but there has been a gap for an event focused on the broader business ecosystem and the people building the infrastructure around psychedelic medicine. PRS27 is designed to fill that gap.”

With six months remaining until the event, early bird tickets are now available, with a limited number of discounted tickets remaining.
