Emyria Opens Sydney Clinic as National Psychedelic Therapy Network Expands

Emyria has begun treating its first patients at a new Sydney clinic, extending its Empax mental health services into New South Wales and bringing its clinical network to four Australian states.

The ASX-listed company (ASX: EMD) opened the four-bed facility at Matilda Nepean Private Hospital in Kingswood, Western Sydney, on schedule. The clinic takes Emyria’s national treatment capacity from 14 to 18 beds, with the company estimating its network can now accommodate up to 90 dosing sessions a week.

The opening gives Emyria a presence in NSW alongside its existing operations in Victoria, Queensland and Western Australia, as it continues to build a national service for patients with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and treatment-resistant depression.

The new clinic is already operating with trained clinicians and Authorised Prescribers, and its first patients have commenced treatment. Some have been approved under the NSW workers’ compensation scheme, providing an early example of how Emyria is seeking to make its services accessible through established healthcare funding arrangements.

For Emyria, the expansion is about more than adding another location. Its clinics also provide an opportunity to build experience delivering specialist treatments in regulated healthcare settings and collect real-world clinical evidence outside traditional clinical trials.

That experience is becoming an increasingly important part of the company’s broader strategy, particularly as it considers opportunities in the United States. Emyria has recently been selected to present at a US Food and Drug Administration hearing on the potential future therapeutic use of psychedelic drugs and appointed former US Secretary of Veterans Affairs Dr David Shulkin as a strategic adviser.

The company says its Australian operations have given it practical experience in clinical governance, therapist training, patient screening, treatment delivery and reimbursement. It is assessing how those capabilities might translate to other healthcare systems, although it has not announced a specific US expansion plan or commercial agreement.

The Sydney opening also brings the company’s treatment infrastructure closer to the scale it has been pursuing. The immediate challenge will be turning that capacity into sustained patient numbers, treatment volumes and reimbursement, while building the evidence base around its services.

That commercial opportunity sits within a substantial mental health market. Emyria points to Australian data showing mental health and substance use disorders accounted for 15% of the country’s total disease burden in 2024, while approximately 4.3 million Australians aged 16–85 experienced a mental disorder over a 12-month period.

Emyria Executive Chair Greg Hutchinson said the company’s focus was now on translating its expanded clinical network into improved patient outcomes, higher treatment volumes and high-quality real-world evidence.

The opening establishes Emyria’s four-state footprint and adds capacity to its existing operations. How much it contributes to the company’s longer-term growth will depend on patient demand, clinic utilisation and the development of sustainable funding pathways.
