New preclinical findings suggest EB-003 can alter brain activity without producing some of the adverse neurological effects observed with DMT in mice.

Enveric Biosciences (NASDAQ: ENVB) has reported new preclinical findings for EB-003, an experimental drug being developed to deliver potential neurological benefits associated with psychedelics without producing hallucinogenic effects.

Announced on 4 November 2026, the findings come from a quantitative electroencephalography (qEEG) study in mice, which examined how EB-003 influences electrical activity in the brain.

Researchers observed changes in brain-wave activity in the prefrontal and parietal regions of the cortex, providing evidence that the compound reaches and affects the central nervous system.

The study also compared EB-003 with dimethyltryptamine (DMT), a classic psychedelic compound.

According to Enveric, DMT produced epileptic-like electrical activity and acute body spasms in mice during the experiment. Comparable effects were not observed with EB-003, which also did not produce the abnormal EEG activity or disruptive sedation patterns monitored in the study.

While the results suggest differences between the two compounds, the findings remain preliminary and do not establish EB-003’s safety or effectiveness in humans.

Developing Psychedelic-Inspired Treatments Without Hallucinations

EB-003 is designed to act on two serotonin receptors, 5-HT2A and 5-HT1B, with the aim of promoting neuroplasticity, the brain’s ability to adapt and reorganise neural connections.

Unlike conventional psychedelic treatments, Enveric is developing EB-003 with the intention of avoiding the intense subjective experiences typically associated with compounds such as psilocybin and DMT.

If this approach proves successful in clinical trials, it could allow psychiatric treatments to be administered with less intensive supervision, potentially making them more accessible in conventional healthcare settings.

However, the latest study measured electrical activity in the brain rather than therapeutic outcomes or hallucinogenic effects. Further research will be needed to establish whether the compound delivers the intended benefits.

Preparing for Human Clinical Trials

Enveric is now working towards its planned Phase 1 clinical programme for EB-003.

The company believes qEEG could provide a useful measurement tool in human studies, allowing researchers to examine the relationship between drug exposure and changes in brain activity.

These measurements could help identify biologically active doses and inform subsequent clinical trials.

The findings add to Enveric’s earlier preclinical research supporting EB-003’s proposed non-hallucinogenic profile, although its effects in humans remain untested.

For now, the results provide another piece of preclinical evidence as Enveric works towards evaluating EB-003 in humans.
