As psychedelic-assisted therapy moves from research into clinical practice in Australia, the organisations building the infrastructure around the sector are entering a new phase of growth.

Mind Medicine Australia is now looking for a General Manager to help lead that next stage.

The organisation has played a central role in Australia’s psychedelic medicine landscape, including its advocacy around the Therapeutic Goods Administration’s 2023 decision to reschedule psilocybin and MDMA as Schedule 8 controlled medicines for specific psychiatric uses.

The changes, which took effect on 1 July 2023, allowed specifically authorised psychiatrists to prescribe MDMA for post-traumatic stress disorder and psilocybin for treatment-resistant depression under the TGA’s Authorised Prescriber scheme.

Australia subsequently became the first country to allow these medicines to be prescribed through an authorised framework, with the first patients receiving treatment in January 2024.

MMA is now expanding beyond advocacy and into the practical development of the emerging treatment ecosystem.

Its activities include clinician education and training, consulting for clinicians and clinics establishing psychedelic-assisted therapy services, and support for the development of access pathways. The organisation says more than 750 clinicians across Australia, New Zealand and globally have completed its Certificate in Psychedelic-Assisted Therapies (CPAT), including more than 68 psychiatrists.

That expansion reflects a broader shift in Australia’s psychedelic medicine sector. The regulatory framework is now established, and the challenge is increasingly about building the clinical, educational and operational infrastructure needed to make psychedelic-assisted therapy work within the healthcare system.

MMA has also expanded its activities into clinical care. In July 2025, the organisation opened the Mind Medicine Australia Clinic and Centre of Excellence in Abbotsford, Melbourne, while continuing to support new clinics and clinicians entering the field.
